World Candidates, Chess Tournament qualified by Koneru Humpy:

Telugu Chess Tejam Koneru Humpy, she will compete in the 2022 World Chess Championship. Koneru Humpy has qualified for the World Candidates Chess Tournament, a qualifying tournament for this championship match. Hampi, the world number three in last year’s Grand Prix Series, finished second overall with 293 points to clinch her candidate’s berth.

In addition to Hampi, Katarina Lagno (Russia – 280 points), Aleksandra Goryachkina (Russia), the runner-up in the last World Championship match, also qualified for the Candidates’ Tournament. The winners of the tournament will face defending champion Xu Wenjun (China) in the 2022 World Chess Championship. 

The last of the four tournaments in the Grand Prix series, the Gibraltar tournament, ended on Wednesday. Although Hampi did not play in this tournament, she has performed brilliantly in the two Grand Prix tournaments she has played in the past. In addition to the tournament held in Skolkovo, she won the tournament in Monaco. However .. due to Corona .. Koneru Hampi is away from the Gibraltar tournament. Meanwhile, Nana Jagnidze (Georgia), anna muzychuk (Ukraine), and Kateryna Lagno (Russia), two of the top three finishers in the tournament, would have had to wait a while for the Hampi Candidates’ tournament berth.
