India withdrew from World Athletics Relays Tournament, as Dutch Government canceled flights to India: The Indian athletics team withdrew from the World Athletics Relays Tournament, a qualifying event for the Tokyo Olympics. The tournament will take place on May 1 and 2 in Silesia, Poland.
The Confederation of Indian Athletics (AFI) booked flight tickets from New delhi to Amsterdam on Thursday morning through KLM Royal Dutch Airlines of the Netherlands for members of the Indian women’s 4G100m relay and men’s 4G400m relay team. The Indian teams had to fly to Poland on a connecting flight from Amsterdam.
However, the Dutch government canceled flights to India from Monday night in the wake of the Corona unrest. Due to the lack of direct flights from India to Poland, the AFI made arrangements to book tickets to Amsterdam in advance and send them to Poland.
‘We tried desperately to see if there were any flights to Poland from other cities in Europe. But no result was seen. With that, the Indian teams must withdraw from the tournament, ”said AFI President Adile Sumariwalla.
Hima Das, Duthie Chand, Dhanalakshmi, Archana, Dhaneshwari, and Himashree Roy are members of the Indian women’s 4G100 relay team. The top 8 teams in the World Relay Tournament qualify for the Olympics.
