After being elected as Surgeon General Vivek Murthy tweeted and said, to serve once again as Surgeon General I am extremely grateful. Happy to have been confirmed by the Senate. We have faced great difficulties as a country in the last year. I am excited to work with you to help make our country fantastic and a better future for our children.
The US Senate voted on Tuesday to elect Vivek Murthy as Surgeon General. 57 US senators voted in favor of Vivek Murthy, while 43 senators did not express satisfaction in his name. With this majority, the Indian-American was appointed Joe Biden’s Surgeon General. Dr. Murthy served as Surgeon General during the tenure of former US President Barack Obama but was removed from office in 2017 by former President Donald Trump.
Some people of Murthy’s family were also infected with the coronavirus. Murthy told senators that he wanted to help protect people and families by offering clear, science-based guidance to the general public. Convincing the American people to take protective measures such as wearing masks is going to be a tough challenge for them. Prior to this, Murthy served as co-chairman of Biden’s Coronavirus Advisory Board. Murthy is said to be very close to the President.
