Telugu is mandatory in Telangana schools. Education officials have directed the DEOs to make Telugu a compulsory subject in all schools in Telangana in classes 4 and 9 from this academic year. The State Board of Educational Research and Training has directed the DEOs to ensure that CBSE, ICSE, IB, and other board schools are strictly enforced.
The government has enacted a law in 2018 to make Telugu a compulsory subject in schools. The NCERT plan under the Department of Education is designed to be implemented in phases from the 2018-19 academic year. So far, the government has corrected Telugu as a subject in 1 2 3 6 7 8 classes.
Corrected Telugu mistakes in 4th and 9th classes from this academic year. From the next academic year, Telugu will have to be implemented as a compulsory subject in all 5th and 10th classes. Until now, Telugu has been taught as a subject in Telugu and English medium schools in the state. Telugu is not being implemented in other schools.
Similarly, inboard schools like CBSE, ICSE, and IB, Telugu is not implemented in 9th and 10th classes. The NCERT Director directed the Department of Education to take appropriate action at the field level in these circumstances.
