Supreme court gave notice to the central govt. on OTT regulations. The supreme court has directed the central government to submit details regarding restrictions on over-the-top (OTT) platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. The supreme court has commented that screening is required for programs aired on OTT platforms. The apex court asked the Center to respond during the hearing of a petition seeking the setting up of an independent regulatory body to regulate content on streaming services.
The Supreme Court’s latest order comes in the wake of central minister of state for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar recent proposal for a self-regulatory mechanism for OTT platforms. The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on the appeal of Amazon Prime India content head Aparna Purohit against an anticipatory bail petition filed by him in the wake of the probe into the controversial web series Tandav.
