Billions of people are waiting for vaccines in the wake of the nationwide wave of the Corona second wave. A Severe shortage of vaccines is plaguing many states due to the growing number of viral cases. States like AP have asked the West Bengal Center for 5.4 crore doses of the vaccine, saying that none of the doses being sent to them are working and that a few lakh doses should be sent urgently.
The shortage of oxygen cylinders is also a concern. The shocking news is that 23 percent of the total vaccines allotted to various states in the country have been wasted till the 11th of this month. The fact that an application filed by an individual under the RTI Act was granted and revealed is not only surprising but also provoking concern. Of these states, especially Tamil Nadu, the most wasted vaccines because the state wasted 12.10 percent. Haryana wasted 9.74 percent, Punjab 8.12 percent, Manipur 7.8 percent, and Telangana 7.55 percent.
As of the 11th of this month, 44 lakh doses were wasted out of the 10 crore doses consumed by the states. Kerala, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Goa, Daman and Diu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep Vaccine stocks are slightly depleted. Already news is coming in that covid cases in the country are approaching nearly three lakh.
While the US warns its compatriots not to go to India, Britain also puts India on the red list for not entering their country. Countries that once called on India for vaccines are now facing off. The shortage of vaccines in these circumstances is also an indirect concern to the Government of India. The government has to take special measures to curb their wastage.
