Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held a video conference with top officials from various sectors in the wake of the approaching Yas. Prime Minister’s Review on Yas Storm. He reviewed the preparations being made by senior government officials, delegates, telecom secretaries, ministries of power, civil aviation, and earth sciences from the National Disaster Management Authority to deal with the severity of the cyclone. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present on the occasion. On this occasion, Modi directed the officials of the respective ministries to be fully prepared to face the Yas storm. Modi directed to take precautionary measures to face any situation.

It is learned that a meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) chaired by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on the Yas cyclone was held yesterday. The NCMC reviewed the readiness of the Central, State, and Union Territories Governments and Agencies to deal with the ‘Yas’ cyclone centered in the East Bay of Bengal. By the evening of May 26, Yas is expected to reach the coasts of West Bengal and the adjoining northern state of Odisha. The Director-General (IMD) of the Indian Meteorological Department briefed the committee on the latest status of the cyclone. According to the IMD Director, the wind speed is expected to be between 155 and 165 mph. The chief secretaries of the respective states briefed the committee on the preparatory measures to deal with the storm.

Meanwhile, people are being evacuated from the Affective land in the wake of the YAS threat. Adequate stocks of food grains, drinking water and other essentials have been set up. Preparations were made to ensure uninterrupted services such as power supply and telecommunications. In addition to deploying 65 NDRF teams, the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, rescue and relief teams, as well as ships and aircrafts were on standby.
