Police cracking down on red sandalwood smugglers:
Andhra Pradesh Police is cracking down on Red Sandalwood smugglers. Although the task force police have been on the offensive for the past few days, their aggression has waned. Police have arrested three red sandalwood smugglers in the Railway Koduru area of Kadapa district and the other smuggler in the police station. A total of about 725 kg of 27 red sandalwood logs were seized. District SP KKN Anburajan said that three robbers were arrested by the task force personnel in this connection.
Meanwhile, two days ago, inter-state smugglers from Vontimitta, Takkoli Ravikumar Reddy of New Madhavaram village, Choppa Murali, and Duladula Srinivas of Nervakati Palli, who were involved in smuggling red sandalwood in Kadapa district, were arrested by the police for allegedly having links with international smugglers. So far, 9 cases have been registered against Takkoli Ravikumar Reddy, police said. He was also jailed under the PD Act in connection with the red sandalwood case in Gautam.
Meanwhile, the district SP said that a man named Gundala Shankara (37) was arrested at Kaluva on the highway near Upparapalli village under the Koduru police station. It has been revealed that there are 31 cases against him in the district. The SP said that the PD Act had also been imposed on Shankar in the past. 20 logs prepared to be moved to the scene were seized.
Police said that Tamil Nadu, along with Tamil laborers who had come out of jail, had smashed the Red sandalwood logs in the Vontimitta forest area and were carrying out illegal danda to the states of Karnataka. Special police teams were informed that 20 red sandalwood logs were being prepared in a vehicle and the vehicle was inspected at the Dudhala check post and 27 red sandalwood logs were seized.
