Parliamentary Standing Committee against Twitter:
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT and Technology has lashed out at Twitter for allegedly failing to comply with government-mandated laws in India. The committee, headed by Congress leader Shashitharur, questioned the two representatives of the social media for about an hour and a half on Friday. Questioned why government rules were not followed.
The center has recently taken Twitter management seriously and has also issued show-cause notices. But the parliamentary committee also stepped in as the answers given by the agency were not satisfactory. The committee almost joked that you are not violating the law and that your rules are no more than government regulations.
However, the delegates seem to have replied that their rules are the same. Relevant sources said that they did not take the committee’s suggestions positively. It is learned that the Parliamentary Committee has brought to their notice the Centre’s warning that you will not have legal protection if you act like yourself. The committee issued a summons last week, expressing dissatisfaction with the way Twitter was still operating.
The meeting was attended by Ayushi Kapoor, a legal lawyer for Twitter India, and Shagufta Kamran, senior manager. BJP leaders are also incensed over the Twitter pattern in the Congress ‘tool kit’ case. It is known that there was a ‘Twitter war’ between the BJP-Congress parties over the case. Twitter has largely ignored the main requirement that its compliance officers must be employed in India. Although they mentioned that they were appointed .. it is known that their details were not disclosed properly.
