More than 3,000 people attended the Yoga Celebrations held yesterday at Times Square in New York to mark International Yoga Day. The Consulate General of India (Diplomatic Representative) Randhir Jaiswal described the day-long event as “Souls Ties to Times Square”. He said the program has become popular all over the world and India-born yoga has become a global heritage. It contributes to health and well-being. He said that it would contribute to a peaceful society and greener earth, on which human health depended. Yoga is the way of life. Jaiswal suggested that everyone should practice yoga which is soothing to the body and mind.

Ruchika Lal, who participated in the event, commented that thousands of people doing pranayama and meditation have ‘sanctified’ these surroundings and had a wonderful experience. Many people visited the stalls of Ayurvedic and natural products prepared by various Indian companies including Tribes India in the theme of Yoga for Wellness prophesied by the United Nations in honor of this year’s Global Theme. 9 yoga sessions were conducted here from 7.30 am to 8.30 pm.
