The report was co-authored by Chief Economist Geeta Gopinath and Economist Ruchir Agarwal. By the end of 2021, only 35 percent of India’s population will be vaccinated, the report said.

The IMF report said India’s situation was a warning to low-income and middle-income countries that have so far been able to avoid a serious threat in many parts of the world, including Africa.
With vaccines currently being collected through bilateral channels under the Covax program, India will be able to immunize 25 percent of the population by 2022. But to achieve the 60 percent target, India will have to order 100 crore doses immediately, the IMF report said.
