The incident in which farmers attacked a BJP MLA took place in Punjab on Saturday and they tore a dress on his body and chased him away. The SP was also injured in an attempt to save the MLA. Abohar MLA Arun Narang was attacked by farmers in Muktasar district Malot. They tore clothes on the some MLA’s. The event took place as MLA Raga held a media conference with local leaders.
Farmers have been protesting for four months against the new cultivation laws brought by the Central. Punjab farmers are playing a key role in this movement. Farmers have been angry with local BJP MPs for some time. When MLA Arun Narang reached Malot along with local leaders in the background some farmers surrounded them. The leaders tried to spray ink on their vehicles. The MLA was taken aside by security guards but chased without leaving.
Police said the farmers who attacked him tore his clothes. Faridkot SP was injured in an attempt to save the MLA from their attack. He is currently being treated at the hospital. Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has strongly condemned the attack on a BJP MLA. The Kisan Morcha also commented that the attack was painful. The BJP claimed that its allies were responsible. Police have registered a case under attempted murder over the incident.
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh alleged that the attack was a testament to the failure of peace in Punjab. MLA Arun Narang alleged that the state government was behind the farmers’ attack on him. They demanded a full inquiry into the matter. He commented that he did not trust the Punjab police.
Arun said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would consult party seniors and take further action. If the state government does not provide protection to the MLA, then it is ridiculed that peace and security in the state are in jeopardy.
