Malabo: A huge explosion has occurred at a military base in the Central African country of Equatorial Guinea. Up to 20 people were killed and about 500 were injured. The blasts damaged houses and other structures surrounding the military base. The whole area was engulfed in dense smoke.
A large number of people, including soldiers, were injured in the accident. The soldiers immediately took relief measures. The injured were rushed to hospitals. The hospitals there were overcrowded with them as the victims were huge. President Theodoro Obiang said the accident was caused by soldiers’ negligence in storing ammunition, dynamite, and explosives. People appealed to donate blood to the injured. The death toll from the blast is expected to rise further, he said.
Bata is the largest city in Central Africa, rich in oil and natural gas reserves. With a total population of 1.4 million, the country has a population of over 8 lakh. Most of them are living in poverty.
